Sherman, Roger
(19 abr. 1721, Newton, Mass.–23 jul. 1793, New Haven, Conn., EE.UU.).

Jurista y político estadounidense. Tuvo actividades comerciales y ejerció como abogado en Connecticut; se desempeñó como juez del tribunal superior (1766–85) y alcalde de New Haven (1784–93). Fue delegado ante el Congreso continental, firmó la Declaración de Independencia y colaboró en la redacción de los artículos de la Confederación. En la convención constitucional propuso una fórmula intermedia de representación parlamentaria que combinaba aspectos de los dos proyectos opuestos que presentaron los estados grandes y los pequeños. El resultado, conocido como "Connecticut (or Great) Compromise (Acuerdo de Connecticut), el cual fue incorporado en la constitución, disponía un poder legislativo bicameral, con representación basada en la población en una cámara (Cámara de Representantes) y en el principio de igualdad en la otra (Senado).
